Comparative Analysis of the Genetic Diversity of Faba Bean (Vicia faba L.)

Faba bean (Vicia faba L.) is an important grain legume with high protein content (approximately 25–30%) and nutritional value. It broadly cultivated in temperate areas both for human consumption as animal feed. According to FAOSTAT (2020), the total area of reached approximately 2.5 million ha, yielding more than 4.5 tons. The characterization genetic diversity parameter biodiversity studies, germplasm characterization, introducing variability plant breeding. present study aims assess among 53 Greek, varied populations provided by Hellenic Agricultural Organization “DEMETER” seed bank. To determine studied populations, six SCoT DNA markers were used. A 114 loci obtained 37.95% being polymorphic 62.05% monomorphic within or between populations. are a useful tool detection encourage targeted crossing strategies. first step towards development efficient breeding program.
